Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles H.E. Mrs. Guo Wei attends the handover ceremony of medical supplies donated by Shanghai to Victoria
2020/11/19

On October 8, 2020, the handover ceremony of the anti-epidemic supplies donated by the City of Shanghai to its sister city Victoria was held at the Seychelles Hospital in the presence of the Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles, H.E. Mrs. Guo Wei; mayor of Victoria Mr. David Andre; Secretary of State for Health, Mrs. Marie-Pierre Lloyd; and chief executive of the Health Care Agency Dr. Danny Louange.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Guo said, "since the signing of the sister-city Agreement between Shanghai and Victoria in 2013, the two cities have conducted frequent exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as culture and education. This donation is a symbol of solidarity and friendship between the two cities. China will always stand unswervingly with the Seychellois government and people. The epidemic will pass, and only by cooperation can the international community overcome it. Wish this donation will help Seychelles win the fight against the virus so that we may resume our normal life and looking forward to the continued steady cooperation and exchanges between the two cities in health, culture and other different areas".

Accepting the donation, Mayor Andre said that this is a beautiful gesture which is much appreciated by the city and hospital. "In the past few months we have received many donations from China to help minimise the spread of Covid-19 and now today we have 30,000 face masks and 18,000 gloves that will be used by the department and shared with the Red Cross Society of Seychelles," he said.

Dr. Louange and the representative of the Red Cross Society also expressed their appreciation and said this donation will play an important role in protecting their staff and in breaking the chain of transmission of Covid.
