Ambassador Yu Jinsong Held National Day Reception

On  27 September 2017, Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles H.E. Mme. Yu Jinsong held a National Day reception at Eden Bleu hotel in Victoria to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

Present at the reception were Vice-President Vincent Meriton, Chief Justice Mathilda Twomey, Foreign Secretary in the Department of Foreign Affairs Claude Morel, ministers, members of the National Assembly and representatives of local Chinese community.

The reception started with the national anthem of PRC and Republic of Seychelles. Speaking at the event, Ambassador Yu Jinsong stated that over the past 68 years, the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) has led and united the Chinese people in obtaining remarkable achievements in national development. In 2017, China made important progress in focusing on deepening reform in various fields, and successfully held the the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and the 9th BRICS Summit. The 19th National Congress of the CPC to be held on 18 October 2017 is a major event in the political life of the Party and the state. China's development will bring more opportunities to the world. The Ambassador stressed that China and African countries are a community of common destiny. China will continue to practice the principles of sincerity, practical results, affinity and good faith put forth by President Xi Jinping, and help boost Africa's overall stability, development and revitalization.

Ambassador Yu said over the past 41 years since establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Seychelles have always maintained the principle of sincerity, friendship, equality, mutual trust, cooperation and win-win situation. In 2017, bilateral relations continue to maintain a good momentum of development with fruitful results in cooperation in political, economic, trade, culture, education, military and other areas. China is ready to make joint efforts with Seychelles to push the friendly and cooperative relations to a new high to better benefit the two countries and the two peoples.

Foreign Secretary Claude extended congratulations to the 68th anniversary of the founding of the PRC on behalf of the government and people of Seychelles. He said Seychelles and China have been supporting each other since the establishment of diplomatic ties, setting an example of South-South cooperation. The two sides have maintained close cooperation in political, economic, social and other fields. Seychelles appreciates the Chinese government's long-time support and assistance and looks forward to working with China to deepen bilateral relations, strengthen cooperation and consolidate the traditional friendship between the two peoples.

The Seychelles National Choir entertained the guests with two Chinese folk songs and one local song at the ceremony, namely My Homeland, Youth Dance and Seychellois.
