Ladies and gentlemen:

Good morning!

Welcome to 2024 Seychelles China Day Bazaar. In a few days, we will celebrate Chinese Lunar Year of Dragon. In traditional Chinese culture, dragon is a symbol of strength, wisdom and auspiciousness. Chinese Lunar New Year was given more significance when the United Nations set it as an official holiday recently. On this occasion, I would like to wish all friends a prosperous year of dragon.

Seychelles China Day Bazaar has been held for 11 times, and warmly welcomed by local community and regarded as an iconic cultural event. It serves as a window through which Seychellois people can better understand Chinese culture and appreciate the charm of China. It serves as a bridge that connects China, Chinese community and local people with affinity and friendship. It is also a moment of reunion that the Chinese and Seychellois people join hands to create a better future with stronger bond, mutual understanding and trust.

China is a country with an ancient civilization of 5,000 years, making significant contribution to the progress of human civilization. Creole culture is  a mix of African, European and Asian cultures, including quality elements of Chinese culture. Last year, Chinese president Xi Jinping put forward the Global Civilization Initiative, advocating inclusiveness, coexistence, exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations. China Day Bazaar is a vivid demonstration of this initiative. Today's event will provide Chinese food, traditional handicrafts, and present cultural performances. I hope everyone can enjoy.

Two months ago, I was appointed as the 16th Chinese ambassador to  Seychelles. My mission is to promote bilateral relations, enhance friendship,   deepen practical cooperation in various fields, with a view to bringing tangible benefits to our two peoples. Since taking office, I was struck by the natural beauty of Mahe and other islands, the kindness and hospitality of local people. In the aftermath of the December 7 disaster, I personally experienced the mutual support and brotherhood between our two peoples. The solidarity and resilience of local people really impressed me. The Chinese embassy is an integral part of the local community, and will help Seychellois friends to the utmost of our capacity. In the same time, we also look forward to the support and cooperation from local people.

Finally, I wish to extend my appreciation to the Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts, Victoria City and Chinese Association of Seychelles for their tremendous efforts in organizing the Bazaar. Team work and the spirit of partnership are the keys to success. I am confident that with joint efforts, the China Day Bazaar will attract more visitors in the future, and become a cultural landmark between China and Seychelles.

Thank you!
