President Michel Meets with Ambassador Shi Zhongjun

On March 4th, 2014, Chinese Ambassador Mr. Shi Zhongjun called on President of Seychelles Republic Mr. James Michel, with the presence of Foreign Minister Jean-Paul Adam. 

President Michel first expressed his most sincere condolences and offer his deepest sympathy for innocent victims in the terrorist attack occurred in Kunming. Ambassador Shi thanked the support of the government and people of Seychelles at the this time of great sadness. 

President Michel praised China as Seychelles' "true friend" and spoke highly of China's long-standing support in various fields, especially the micro projects which drip down to communities and directly benefit the populace. Ambassador Shi said in response that China, as a developing country, shares common interests and common ideologies with African countries including Seychelles, as well as facing common challenges and concerns in the course of development. China will continue to closely cooperate with Seychelles so as to realize common development.

As of tourism, Chinese tourists arriving in Seychelles have reached 2740 alone in the first five weeks of this year, ranking the top of all arrival countries. By the end of February, this number has quickly climbed to around 5000. While both sides were content with the sky-rocketing growth of Chinese tourists, they agreed to extend cooperation relevant to tourism and to get fully prepared. 

 The two sides also exchange notes on issues of mutual concern and specific cooperation, such as blue economy, marine security and cultural exchange. Both agreed that the meeting was fruitful.
